Welcome to your FSL website! Welcome back to school. My name is Mme Pantuso, your child's FSL teacher. I'm delighted to have the opportunity to teach your child. This site is intended to keep you informed, give you extra resources and update you on regular class work.
The expectations in every class are simple: students will be attentive and ready to work, embrace the challenges, allow yourself to make mistakes, participate, ask for support and always show respect towards others.
The purpose of this note is to inform you of how each student will be evaluated. Much of your child's success in French will be dependent on listening, regularly participating, oral expression, daily work and completing all assignments.
French as a Second Language Program is divided into four curriculum areas: Listening, Speaking , Reading & Writing.
Oral Communication involves regular participation by speaking in French and consistently listening attentively. If something is taught and not understood the students have to first ask themselves, "Am I doing my part and listening closely?" If their answer is, "Yes", perhaps something was not understood. Then to clarify, inform the teacher by saying, "Je ne comprends pas, Madame." (I don't understand, Madame).
Reading includes daily reading, comprehension and following written directions without needing extra prompts.
Writing includes daily work completed legibly, coming to class prepared with needed materials, keeping accurate notes, written assignments, quizzes and tests.
I insist on a comfortable classroom environment for everyone. Demonstrating respect for others and their opinions while participating is mandatory. Naturally, if students don't continue to try, improvement won't be reached.
If throughout the year you have a question or need clarification, please send me a message through Edsby.
Together, we will have a memorable school year! Mme Pantuso : )
